Historical Garden Tour Celebrates Sustainable Landscaping Design
Lake Tahoe, CA – Nine sustainable gardens will be showcased this Sunday, July 29th during the Lake Tahoe Historical Society’s 9th Annual Garden Tour in the South Lake Tahoe Area. The event begins in the Angora Fire area at 10 am, heads down Pioneer Trail, and finishes in the City of South Lake Tahoe with refreshments and music at the final stop on the tour.
This year, seven of the nine gardens selected for the garden tour have utilized free conservation landscaping services, and 2 of the gardens belong to Marsha Ward Hudson and Jennifer Cressy, both members of the Tahoe RCD conservation landscaping team. Conservation landscaping incorporates holistic landscaping practices, including implementing measures such as native, water efficiency plants, erosion control practices, organic fertilizers, invasive weed control and fire defensible space. These landscaping practices create sustainable landscapes that thrive in arid summertime temperatures prevalent in the Lake Tahoe region.
